Applications

PLDD

PLDD (Percutaneous Laser Disk Decompression) is a new approach to herniated disk. Insert a needle of 18G to 21G into the intervertebral disk under fluoroscopy and put a special tip-processed laser fiber through the needle, which enables vaporization of nucleus pulposus. This leads to decrease in intradiscal pressure and diminishes symptoms of the hernia. PLDD is minimally invasive and less burden therapy. A special tip-processed laser fiber enables you to perform PLDD surgery without damage to other tissues even if for small dogs like miniature dachshunds.
Detailed of the dedicated PLDD fiber is dectibed at Accessories page.

Pain Relief

Pain relief with the use of laser is broadly perfomed in clinical settings. Analagesic effect by laser light, which is confirmed generally, is obtained by depression of pain producing substance, decreasing bonding force of receptor, vasodilating effect, increase in blood flow and suppression of spike transmission. Healing effect is also abtained by irradiating wound site with a laser light.

Incision and Hemostat

Diode laser is effectively used for incision. This incision with diode laser allows us low-bleeding and low-pain operation, which minimally invasive procedure for animals. After operative recover is also faster. Old aged animals are appropriate to apply this procedure because orperation under local anesthesia is possible. These features leads to low-cost operation and less anesthesia so that owners have become more positive about animals' surgery.

Vaporization

Viporization had not been done well with diode lasers. However, our Round-type Metal probe has been developed to be used for speedy vaporization. CO2 laser is often used for vaporization, but it requires high skill to aim at a diseased part accurately to perform non-contact manipulation and if it does not go as intended there is a risk that normal tissue could be vaporized. By using Round-type Metal probe, you can do contact manipulation avoiding the risk of vaporizing normal tissues under local anesthesia or under no anesthesia.

Periodontal Disease

Approximately 80 to 90% of canines and felines have a periodontal disease or gingival inflammation. There are a lot of dental products recently, owners and veterinarians are gaining awareness about those. A diode laser has become to be used frequently for periodontal disease treatment. Most cases of periodontal disease have symptoms like asitia and halitosis, but these symptoms were improved by just the next day of treatment. Laser treatment for periodontal disease has being given to many patients on a routine basis.

Spaying, neutering and resection

For spaying or neutering, our Forceps-type laser dissector is quite useful. Forceps-type laser dissector is one of our unique products. Its usage is different from that with electric cautery. One of the features of the Forceps-type Laser Dissector is that you can not only dissect ducts and vessels but also seal them. Vessels up to 3mm in diameter can be dissected and requires no ligation. Pressure capacity of the seal is more than 350mmHg. It is immune to break seals by the blood pressure after animals’ recover from anesthesia. Forceps-type Laser Dissector is often used for splenectomy in which ligation is difficult. Also, it is often used in sterilization and castration. Another feature is that you can perform surgery to remove part of a liver with this handpiece as though it were scissors. Hemostasis is also applied just by using this handpiece as scissors, so it is a little damage for animals and helps doctors perform an easy operation. In human clinical use, this is mainly used in proctology and breast surgery, also used for hepatic resection.

Treatment with ICG dye

ICG (indocyanine green) is a test agent which is used for hepatic function test, and absorbs well the light with 803nm wavelength. The laser beam generated from DVL-15 is 810nm and ICG absorbs it selectively. ICG enables coagulation or vaporization of the particular area where ICG is applied or injected by irradiated with a laser beam. This procedure is often used to ensure resection margins after ulcer treatment or tumor resection. In human clinical use, ablation of hemorrhoid or anal gland is conducted by injecting ICG into them directly.

Glaucoma

The treatment for glaucoma using the feature of a diode laser is special and unique. Some people misinterpret this treatment as draining aqueous humor by piercing a whole in sclera, but, it is not true. Put the fiber tip on the surface of sclera, and irradiate a laser above the ciliary ring with low output level for just a moment. A laser light passes through the sclera and is absorbed by melanin in ciliary ring. Then, heat is accumulated in melanin by absorbing laser light and consequently ciliary ring vaporizes. This vaporization depresses the aqueous formation and it is considered that it improves the flow of the aqueous through the trabecular meshwork.
Hereunder is the case of a dog that it had remarkable improvement after 1 week of operation.

Treatment of trichiasis

This treatment is based on treatment for humans. Various procedures have been reported. Basically, bring the tip of fiber as close to the roots of the lashes as possible, and irradiate lasers with low energy level for just a moment. This procedure put the lashes into nearly permanent epilation.

Laser hyperthermia

One of the new treatments for tumors is a laserthermia. The survival rate of tumor cells falls above 42 degrees though that of normal cells falls above 44 degrees. This difference of sensitivity to temperature is utilized in laserthermia. Inserts a special fiber into the tumor and irradiates a laser light, which produces an increase in temperature. Adjust the temperature inside the tumor at 42.5 to 43.5 degrees and hold it there for a minute. Only tumor cells will be killed by this procedure. Laserthermia can be effectively applied for treatment of tumors when systemic anesthesia is difficult to apply, total removal of the tumor is difficult or significant change in appearance is predicted by doing normal surgery.
