"A diode laser was introduced to the private
veterinary hospitals in Japan six years ago. Thereafter,
the diode laser has been used for many types of the
daily surgical treatments under the local or systemic
anesthesia, including ovariohystelectomy, splenectomy,
claw surgery, glaucoma, tumors, dental care, etc.
Specifically, with superficial tumors, the cutaneous or
the subcutaneous tumors were extracted, coagulated or
evaporated under the local anesthesia of the daily
surgery. These operations were welcomed by the owners
who were not willing to apply the systemic anesthesia
for their pets. At our hospital after introduction of
the diode laser in 2001, I stopped using the electric
cautery for surgery."
"I have had many opportunities to join in
the animal experiments for laser surgeries by human
medicine since 1980. On those experiments, extremely
high power irradiation such as 20 W was applied for
investigation of the interaction between laser power
density and the tissue reactions. From such experiences,
I came to know how important power control is in
succeeding in the laser surgery because the power
density in the tissue decides tissue reaction. Asuka
Lasers, who has achieved the top laser sales in Japan,
can provide veterinarians with many items, which can
help us to control the power density: a stable laser
power source, different types of scalpels and fibers, a
forceps-type laser dissector for vessel dissection, a
mysterious fiber pot which activates the tip of the
fiber for clean cutting, a very cool booklet of user's
experiences, and even educational seminars. I just
select one of the Asuka products to perform treatments
estimating the tissue reactions to the laser power I
shoot."
